Women's Studies Program Mission

Mission Statement

The Women's Studies Program provides academic leadership to the Appalachian State University community for the study of women's and gender issues, and gender/feminist/womanist theories. This leadership finds expression both in the classroom as well as in a variety of other venues. In order to accomplish this mission, the program offers:

A new approach to traditional academic disciplines by incorporating the study and contribution of women;
An interdisciplinary model of scholarship constructed around women's and gender issues as well as gender/feminist/womanist theories;
An open atmosphere for the exchange of ideas and expressions of concern over a wide range of women's and gender issues on our campus and in our society.
