ASU WS Scholarship To Support Internships

Insurance information for Interships

Why Choose an Internship?

Internships not only provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in their field of study, but internships also benefit the community. The services provided by students can enrich the lives of the recipients to the betterment of our community. The following list of organizations have agreed to host a student intern who can earn 1-4 credit hours in Women's Studies through IDS course number 3900. They have been gracious enough to extend their offices to students willing to work on an issue concerning women.

Appalachian Voices is a nonprofit organization working to protect and restore Appalachian ecosystems and communities. We promote direct involvement of communities and he general public in the important environmental decisions that face the people of our region. As the only regional conservation organization addressing a broad range of environmental concerns in the central and southern Appalachian Mountains, Appalachian Voices focus on three of the most important environmental issues in the region: air pollution, sustainable forestry, and mountaintop removal mining. An internship could, for example, look at women's roles in West Virginia who are fighting mountaintop removal, especially the women whose families and homes are threatened by this devistation. This internship would earn up to three credit hours, nine hours each week.

Students may also intern at other places of interest with a Women's Studies focus. To create your own internship, you need to work with a professor who will direct the internship and have approval from your academic advisor.
